Contrast effects in backward evaluative conditioning: Exploring effects of affective relief/disappointment versus instructional information.

چکیده
Past studies of backward evaluative conditioning (EC) have found an assimilation effect, in that neutral conditional stimuli (conditional stimulus [CS]) were to acquire the valence co-occurring unconditional (US). Recent employing a concurrent forward and paradigm with instructions suggesting contrastive relation between US CS resulted contrast effects, CSs acquired opposite US. The current research investigated whether these effects fact due highlighting CS, or affective relief/disappointment experienced at offset could account for this result. Consistent hypothesized role instructions, occurred only when highlighted attributed control CSs. In hypothesis, no without such instructions.

Reevaluating evaluative conditioning: a nonassociative explanation of conditioning effects in the visual evaluative conditioning paradigm.
In 2 studies, the authors investigated whether evaluative conditioning (EC) is an associative phenomenon. Experiment 1 compared a standard EC paradigm with nonpaired and no-treatment control conditions. EC effects were obtained only when the conditioned stimulus (CS) and unconditioned stimulus (UCS) were rated as perceptually similar. However, similar EC effects were obtained in both control gr...
متن کاملthe effects of cooperative versus individual directed reading thinking activities on students inferential and referential questions
two groups of students were assigned as experimental and control ones, and were given instruction on directed reading-thinking activities and after some treatment, they were post-tested. although the initial pre-test did not show any significant differences, the final post-test result revealed that the cooperative reading comprehension helped the experimental group. the cooperative students’...
15 صفحه اولModulation of Affective Learning: An Occasion for Evaluative Conditioning? ¬リニ
Two experiments assessed whether human affective learning is sensitive to occasion setting. The first experiment (N 5 18) employed a within-subjects, sequential feature positive design (X → A1/A2). Modulation of blink startle, an index of affective learning, was larger during A1 than during A2, suggesting that participants had learned a modulatory relationship. Experiment 2 (N 5 32) assessed wh...
متن کاملDissociating the effects of attention and contingency awareness on evaluative conditioning effects in the visual paradigm.
Two experiments are described that investigate the effects of attention in moderating evaluative conditioning (EC) effects in a picture-picture paradigm in which previously discovered experimental artifacts (e.g., Field & Davey, 1999 ) were overcome by counterbalancing conditioned stimuli (CSs) and unconditioned stimuli (USs) across participants. Conditioned responses for individuals who had a...
